What to see in Klaipėda
Klaipėda is Lithuania's only seaport city: a castle was built at the mouth of the Danė in 1252, and the town received its city rights in 1257. Its museums tell the story of the castle, the sea and Lithuania Minor, half-timbered buildings survive in the Old Town, and a short ferry ride away in Smiltynė the nature of the Curonian Spit begins.
