Memorize

When Makoto breaks his leg, his son-in-law, Juta, travels from Tokyo to the provincial town of Kyushu to help him at his old-fashioned photography studio. The characteristics of analog and digital photography become a metaphor for the complexity of human relationships and generational conflict. Able to communicate with his family only from a distance, Juta stays in touch by exchanging photos and videos. The ritualized details of everyday life, his relationship with nature, and his memories blend into a quiet narrative about the passage of time and the immense role that images play in our lives. “Memorizu” won the New Director Award at the Tribeca Film Festival. Director: Miiku Sakanishi Cast: Tasuku Emoto, Moeka Hoshi, Yû Kashii
