Actress Kristina Kazlauskaitė returns to directing with the comedy “Trys mylimos” (“Three Beloved Ones”), a classic work of Lithuanian literature by Julija Beniuševičiūtė-Žymantienė, better known by her pen name Žemaitė.
The play is set in a Lithuanian village. Liudvikas, a village lad, uses his charms to try to win over three women at once—a mother and her two daughters who live in the same village cottage. However, his true motive is not love, but wealth. The young man tries to coax the mother into giving him her savings. This gives rise to a comedy of various situations—lies, deceit, and seduction—as each of the three women falls seriously in love with Liudvikas.
The play’s vivid characters will be brought to life by legendary theater actors: the role of the mother will be portrayed by actresses Dalia Brenciūtė and Violeta Podolskaitė. Actors of the younger generation, Balys Ivanauskas and Artūras Dubaka, will share the role of Liudvikas, while Redita Dominaitytė and Kristina Savickytė (Petronėlė) and Aistė Lasytė and Veronika Tarasevičiūtė (Domicelė), respectively. The farmer Kozeris will be played by Vytautas Taukinaitis and Gediminas Storpirštis.
“Three Beloved Ones” is one of the masterpieces of Lithuanian drama and remains relevant to this day. Three women and one man. Deception or sincerity? Love or calculation? Timeless questions to which Kristina Kazlauskaitė, drawing on her own vision as a director, the actors’ talents, and spoken dialects—conveying the full range of human traits and emotions—will attempt to answer these questions with emotion, drama, and humor.
We all want to love and be loved. Liudvikas and his three beloved women are a perfect example of this.
