Gaisrinė is an industrial-style restobar and bar on the Danė riverfront in Klaipėda Old Town. One-Part Concert for Little Ones Those who come to listen to the one-act educational concert “Little Mozart” will find soft rugs in the first-floor foyer, where we invite you to make yourselves comfortable with your little ones up to three years old. We strive to ensure that everyone at this concert not only feels comfortable but also has fun. Some will be able to quietly listen to the music and the stories about it told by Monika Longo, a musician and educator with the KVMT Symphony Orchestra, while safely nestled in the arms of their parents or guardians. Others might dare to explore the new theater environment on all fours or standing up. Still others might look for new friends or even rush to help the KVMT Symphony Orchestra musicians playing in the quartet. We have no doubt that when you attend the “Little Mozart” concert, you’ll be amazed at how quickly even babies and toddlers learn to appreciate classical music and respond to it, trying to move to the rhythm of the music, and joining in with the musicians’ live performances through joyful giggles, babbling, or melodious cooing. None of the usual rules of conduct for classical music concerts apply to the audience at this concert, but this in no way affects the quality of the program or the musical performance: we strive to capture the attention of our young listeners with masterpieces of the highest-quality classical music, performed by professional musicians. As we know from music history, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, 1756–1791) was only five years old when he began composing music on his own—he learned to read musical notation before he could read or write letters. By the age of six, he was already performing as a virtuoso soloist at the imperial court, excelling not only on the harpsichord and organ but also on the violin and viola. At the age of seven, together with his father Leopold and his older sister Maria Anna (Nanerle), he set out on his first concert tour of Europe; at age ten he composed his first opera, and three years later, while still a teenager, he was appointed kapellmeister—conductor of the orchestra—at the court of the Archbishop of Salzburg, his native Austrian city. Because of his exceptional musical talent at such a young age, he was called a wunderkind—“a child prodigy.” The concert features excerpts from the First String Quartet, composed by the 14-year-old at the Salzburg court, and the Divertimento, written when he was 16, as well as the famous Minuet composed around the same time by the Italian composer and cellist Luigi Boccherini (1743–1805). Mozart admired this composer in his youth. We will also hear three movements from Mozart’s popular serenade for strings, *A Little Night Music*, composed when he was in his thirties, as well as a dance—the contradance *The Battle*—written for orchestra. Although the composer’s star was destined to fade after only a few years, even this music of his sounds extraordinarily clear, simple, and sincere. Research conducted by scientists shows that listening to classical music—and Mozart’s works in particular—has a positive impact on children’s achievements and promotes the development of young children with congenital disorders or disabilities. Melodies composed by Mozart have long been recognized by music therapy and psychology specialists as not only educational but also therapeutic. So we invite the whole family—parents, grandparents, and caregivers—along with their wonderful little ones—to their first encounter with classical music.   A two-act musical for the whole family, performed in Lithuanian (N-7) Music and lyrics by Tim Minchin Libretto by Dennis Kelly, based on Roald Dahl’s children’s novel *Matilda* Libretto translated into Lithuanian by Virginijus Pupšys Arrangements and additional music by Christopher Nightingale The musical is presented under license from Music Theatre International.   “Matilda” is a musical that has won more than 100 awards in various countries and has been drawing crowds of fans worldwide to screens and musical theaters for more than a decade, inspired by the 1988 book of the same name by British author Roald Dahl. A favorite among children and translated into many languages (translated into Lithuanian by Danguolė Žalytė, published by “Garnelis,” in 2014, and by “Alma littera” in 2022), the book’s main character, Matilda, amazes those around her with her sharp wit, vivid imagination, and… psychokinetic powers. Unloved by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood, and bullied by her brother Michael, she devours one book after another, but to her family, this is nothing more than a waste of time. So when she starts school, she immediately hits it off with her first teacher, Miss Honey, who is charmed by the girl’s extraordinary talents and her maturity beyond her years. However, life at school is not all roses either. The school is run by the harsh Miss Trunchbull, who cannot stand children and cruelly punishes anyone who disobeys her rules. Endowed with a sharp mind, a strong sense of justice, and the courage to stand up for herself and defend the weak, Matilda boldly takes action and overcomes all adversity! Commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company, the musical—based on the novel—was created in 2010 by British librettist Dennis Kelly and Australian musician and comedian Tim Minchin. Directed by Matthew Warchus, the musical had its world premiere in Stratford-upon-Avon in December 2010, and beginning in November 2011, the production—featuring the same cast with minor changes—began running in London’s West End at the Cambridge Theatre. Having garnered immense popularity, financial success, critical acclaim, and the highest honors in British theater, the theater decided to bring the musical to Broadway. At the American premiere of the musical, which took place in April 2013 at the Schubert Theatre, several minor plot changes were made to bring the content closer to American realities. U.S. audiences and theater critics were quick to express their enthusiasm for the new production: tickets to the performances sold out in an instant, and in 2013 alone, the musical received as many as 12 Tony Award nominations. Just as the book was adapted into the 1996 comedy film *Matilda*, directed by Danny DeVito, the musical was also adapted for the big screen. In October 2022, the film *Matilda the Musical* (Matilda the Musical), directed by Matthew Warchus—who also directed the original stage production—and featuring new songs by Tim Minchin written specifically for the film, orchestrated by Christopher Nightingale, just as in the theatrical version of the musical. Distributed on Netflix, this film—brimming with girl power and the wild energy of childhood anarchy, packed with memorable songs, energetic dance numbers, and standout performances by movie stars— has captivated millions of viewers, both young and old, around the world. In Lithuania, conductor and choirmaster Vytautas Valys and choreographer Taurūnas Baužas, along with their students at the Klaipėda Children’s Opera Studio, first undertook a production of this musical a few years ago. Admittedly, it was a chamber version—a condensed adaptation of the musical. Students from the Klaipėda Children’s Opera Studio are also participating in this production at the Klaipėda State Music Theater—directed by Rūta Bunikytė and intended for the whole family—which we could consider the Lithuanian premiere of the musical “Matilda.”

Stasio Šimkaus, Vytauto Klovos, Algimanto Raudonikio, Jurgio Karnavičiaus bei kitų kompozitorių kūriniai, kuriose išlikę skirtingų kartų melodijos, istorijos ir lietuviškos muzikos tradicijos atspindžiai. Vokalinę programos dalį papildys lietuvių kompozitorių instrumentinė muzika styginių orkestrui. Mikalojaus Kleopo Oginskio, Broniaus Kutavičiaus, Fausto Latėno, Teisučio Makačino, Nijolės Sinkevičiūtės ir kitų kompozitorių kūriniai leis pažvelgti į lietuviškos muzikos kelią - nuo liaudies muzikos tradicijų, romantizmo idėjų iki skirtingų XX amžiaus estetinių krypčių, formavusių lietuvišką profesionaliąją muziką.
