The creators of the performance “Indigo Das Schliemann Projekt” won three Golden Stage Crosses: Agnija Šeiko for choreography, Sandra Straukaitė and Sigita Šimkūnaitė for costumes and set design, and Andrius Stasiulis for lighting design.
The performance was inspired by the colorful and contrasting biography of 19th-century businessman, polyglot, and discoverer of ancient Troy, Heinrich Schliemann, as well as his personality and the story of the discovery of Troy. A 19th-century businessman who spoke eighteen languages and could quote the *Iliad* by heart, visited most of the world’s continents, yet finding personal happiness and achieving academic recognition proved far more difficult for him than success in business or archaeological excavations. H. Schliemann brought Troy back to the world, yet he is viewed with mixed feelings by historians, archaeologists, and even biographers.
The creative team behind the dance performance was inspired not only by H. Schliemann’s discoveries, which have become part of history, but also by the dynamic, story of his life-filled with personal losses, disappointments, stubbornness, and willpower, as well as incredible coincidences, lies, self-deception, love, and longing for it. The performance weaves a subjective, impression-based narrative that not only interprets the historical figure but also presents the creators’ self-reflections inspired by him.
“Indigo. Das Schliemann Projekt”-about an (un)attainable dream, a passionate and relentless pursuit of a goal, truth and lies, the image one creates and reality, as well as the never-ending search for one’s true self-a kind of self-archeology.
Founded in Klaipėda in 2012, the Šeiko Dance Theater is one of the most active professional contemporary dance companies in Lithuania. Led by choreographer Agnija Šeiko, the dance theater creates and presents dance performances of various genres and forms-which have been recognized with the highest national awards-to audiences both at home and abroad; It is also involved in dance education, organizes public performances in the city, and collaborates with various communities. The Šeiko Dance Theater has already performed at international festivals and on stages in more than a dozen countries around the world: the U.S., Iceland, Italy, China, Latvia, France, Finland, Sweden, Ukraine, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Malta, Estonia, and Belgium.
Important: The performance features intense light and sound installations, which may affect sensitive individuals or those with epilepsy. The performance is not recommended for children under 7 years of age. The set design (“blue ashes”) is safe and falls only directly in front of the stage, out of reach of the audience. For added protection, we recommend wearing face masks.
