Žvejų rūmai

Žvejų rūmai (Fishermen’s Palace) boasts one of the largest stages in Lithuania, complete with an orchestra pit. This makes it possible to host large ensembles - including symphony orchestras and ballet companies - as well as productions featuring elaborate stage designs. The venue’s Grand Hall has 1,050 seats, while the intimate Theatre Hall accommodates 114 spectators. Until 1996, Žvejų rūmai belonged to Jūra, the Lithuanian fish industry production association. As the organisation began to collapse, the efforts of Klaipėda City Municipality led to the Palace of Fishermen’s Culture and Sports being transferred to the City of Klaipėda in 1996. It subsequently became a private limited company, with 100% of its shares owned by Klaipėda City Municipality. Following the failure of various business plans and substantial financial losses suffered by the Municipality, the building was leased to private businesses for ten years. When the tenants were also unable to maintain the building and pay the rent, the Municipality began searching for a new administrator. From 1 January 2003, Žvejų rūmai was administered by the Klaipėda Music Centre, a municipal budgetary institution. On 1 April 2005, the Klaipėda Music Centre underwent another reorganisation. As a result, two cultural institutions of Klaipėda City Municipality were established - the Klaipėda Concert Hall and the Žvejų rūmai Cultural Centre. Until 31 July 2023, Žvejų rūmai was headed by Alvydas Juozas Lenkauskas. Since 1 August 2023, Žvejų rūmai has been headed by Director Kristina Jakštė.
