Along the way, the hobbits encounter Gollum, who has been following them for a long time and swears by “the Ring” to show them the way. Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas pursue the orcs who have kidnapped Merry and Pippin, and later encounter someone they did not expect to meet. Together, the four ride to Edoras, the capital of Rohan, where King Théoden of Rohan is under the control of his advisor and master, Saruman. But that is not the only problem, for a massive Orc army is soon to appear in Rohan, and everyone who cares about the fate of Middle-earth will have to join the desperate battle at the fortress of Helm’s Deep.
