Bilbo Baggins is throwing a party to celebrate his 111th birthday. In the middle of the party, he vanishes and sets off on a journey, leaving his entire fortune to his nephew, Frodo Baggins. He also leaves him “The Ring,” which he had found many years ago in a cave beneath the mountains. The wizard Gandalf suspects that the “Ring,” which makes the wearer invisible, is not quite so innocent, so he advises Frodo to guard it carefully. Upon discovering that it is “The One Ring,” forged several thousand years ago by the Dark Lord Sauron and possessing the power to control the other “Rings of Power,” Gandalf advises Frodo to leave home immediately and make his way safely to the elven settlement of Rivendell, where a council is to be held regarding the fate of the “Ring.”
