Jess and her family are packing their suitcases for a trip to Tenerife, but on the eve of their vacation, the young woman dies tragically. A year later, the pain still hasn’t subsided: her mother, sister, and boyfriend are each trying in their own way to come to terms with their grief. Tormented by their loss, they set out on the trip that never happened. Under the Tenerife sun, memories of the past come alive and begin to heal. The film masterfully blends the present and the past, as well as the experiences of loss, guilt, and responsibility. The director describes her screenplay as “a gentle slip into surrealism, while still firmly grounded in reality,” and the atmosphere that matches this vision was created by Gregor Oke, the cinematographer of the acclaimed film *After the Sun*. With its original structure, the film earned Sandra Wollner the title of Best Film in the prestigious “Un Certain Regard” section of the Cannes Film Festival.
