Kalvystės muziejus
Description
The Blacksmith's Museum stands on Šaltkalvių street in Klaipėda's old town, in a restored smithy dating from 1895, and is a branch of the History Museum of Lithuania Minor. The ground floor presents material from Gustav Katzke's well-known forge, including an authentic blacksmith's signboard and working tools. The upper floor displays 19th and 20th century cemetery crosses, fences and gates reflecting the traditions of Lithuania Minor and its Lietuvininkai. Gas lanterns, farming implements, household objects and architectural details round out the collection. The museum grew out of one blacksmith and metal restorer's effort to save grave monuments marked for destruction, and the exposition opened in 1992. It suits visitors interested in crafts, city history and cultural heritage.
