Description

The human voice can become an entire orchestra. For two decades now, the Swedish vocal quartet “Ringmasters” has been astonishing audiences with nothing more than four voices and impeccable harmony. In their programs, the ensemble masterfully blends the Swedish choral music tradition with jazz and popular music hits—from The Beatles to Elvis Presley. Their a cappella performances amaze with their precision, energy, and ability to create a rich sound using only their voices—a sound that captures the timbre, rhythm, and emotion of various instruments. Formed in Stockholm, the ensemble caught the world’s attention in 2012 when it became the first non-American group to win the World Barbershop* Championship in the United States. This tradition, based on close harmony and exceptional vocal blending, extends far beyond the “Ringmasters’” repertoire and continues to amaze listeners. Their programs blend jazz, popular music, folk music, and interpretations of the classical repertoire. In 2026, “Ringmasters” will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their creative work, and their anniversary program, “20 Years of Good Vibes,” will feature everything that has become their hallmark. This includes virtuoso vocal mastery, the melodiousness of Swedish music, and the ability to connect with listeners from the very first note. Over the course of twenty years, this quartet has upheld the most important principle of a cappella music—that each voice has its own place, and together they can create a sound far greater than that of just four people. * “Barbershop” refers to a style of arranging four-part a cappella harmonies; it is not a historical period, a musical style, or a genre. The melody is typically sung in the second voice, with harmonies above and below it. The arranger harmonizes every note of the melody, using few passing tones or doublings, and creates greater harmonic movement by incorporating sequences of secondary chords. The baritone part serves a unique function—it fills in the missing note of each chord.
